Racebox Button Box Compatibility Guide

Racebox Button Box Compatibility Guide

This guide covers platform compatibility, setup requirements, and software configuration for all current Racebox sim racing button box models. Please read the relevant section for your platform before purchasing.

⚠️ Important: Console Compatibility Notice

Console support for USB HID button boxes is not guaranteed. Xbox and PlayStation platforms impose hardware authentication and controller protocol restrictions that prevent most third-party button boxes from functioning as intended. Always verify compatibility with your specific console firmware version before purchasing. This is consistent with industry-wide guidance for 2026 sim racing peripherals.

PC — Fully Supported

All Racebox button boxes are designed and tested for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). Plug-and-play USB HID recognition means no driver installation is required for basic input mapping.

Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11
  • USB: USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port (Type-A)
  • No dedicated driver required for HID input recognition
  • macOS and Linux: Not officially supported

USB Setup

  1. Connect the button box to a USB port on your PC using the supplied cable.
  2. Windows will automatically detect the device as a generic USB HID game controller.
  3. Verify detection via Control Panel → Devices and Printers or joy.cpl (Run → joy.cpl).
  4. Assign buttons in your sim racing title's controller settings or via SimHub.

SimHub Integration (PC)

SimHub is the recommended software for advanced button mapping, LED control, and display configuration on all Racebox button boxes.

  • Download SimHub (free, Windows only) from simhubdash.com
  • Navigate to Controls and Events to map button inputs to in-game actions
  • LED and flag display models (GT-FLAG, GT-FLAG V2, RaceFlag) require SimHub for full functionality
  • SimHub profiles can be shared and imported across sessions

In-Game Button Mapping (PC)

Most modern PC sim titles natively detect Racebox button boxes as a USB game controller:

  • iRacing – Options → Controls → Add Controller
  • Assetto Corsa / ACC – System → Controls → assign buttons directly
  • rFactor 2 / Le Mans Ultimate – Controller Wizard or manual axis/button mapping
  • Automobilista 2 – Controls menu → detect and assign
  • F1 24 – Settings → Peripherals → Button Box (may require SimHub mapping)

Xbox Compatibility

Xbox consoles (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One) do not natively support third-party USB button boxes that are not Xbox-licensed peripherals. Racebox button boxes are not Xbox-certified and are not expected to function as game controllers on Xbox hardware.

  • USB HID detection: ❌ Not supported
  • Button input recognition: ❌ Not supported
  • Workarounds via third-party adapters: May exist but are not tested or endorsed by Racebox

If you primarily use an Xbox console, we recommend pairing a Racebox button box with a dedicated sim racing PC rig.

PlayStation Compatibility

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 require peripherals to use Sony's proprietary authentication protocol. Racebox button boxes are not PlayStation-certified and will not be recognized as valid input devices on PS4 or PS5.

  • USB HID detection: ❌ Not supported on PS4/PS5
  • Button input recognition: ❌ Not supported
  • Workarounds via third-party adapters: May exist but are not tested or endorsed by Racebox

PlayStation users should use Racebox products with a PC sim setup for full functionality.

No. PlayStation 5 (and PS4) require Sony-authenticated peripherals. Racebox button boxes are PC-only devices and will not be recognized by PlayStation consoles.

Do I need to install drivers on PC?

No drivers are required. All Racebox button boxes use the USB HID standard and are recognized automatically by Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Does SimHub cost anything?

SimHub is free to use. A voluntary donation unlocks additional features. It is Windows-only and available at simhubdash.com.

What USB cable is included?

If selected, Racebox button boxes ship with a USB Type-B cable. Connect directly to your PC — no hub required for standard setups.

Can I use multiple button boxes simultaneously?
